The easiest part of an introduction is the name, mine is Doug Dobbins. Some of you already know me and I’ll give the 10k foot overview for those that don’t.
I was born in the desert portion of the the Pacific NorthWet, close enough to Canada to get there for an afternoon, but no so close that I end all my sentences with an, “Eh” After a successful stint as a school yard bully, I started messing with all things electronic and managed to get my hands on an increasingly powerful series of personal computers. All via legal means of course.
I spent some time at college, met and married my wife and decided to move to the Emerald City. I spent something more than a decade working for Microsoft, where I broke things, developed things, wrangled a few cats and worked on most everything between Access and Xbox. While I was there I met lots of great people who’s passion and intensity equaled my own and I’m proud to call them my friends.
Since leaving the Empire, I have been working as a consultant on networks, and general IT issues. I also work as a stock photographer and have strong interests in new media. During 2004, I took a brief hiatus from consulting and photography to pursue a higher calling.
I spent the better part of the year working in politics (my other passion) to try and change the country. I ran campaigns, became a candidate for state legislature, and took am amazing road trip across the country in 42 hours to attend a national convention. Talk about putting a lifetime of fun in a single year or drinking from the fire hose.
I’m currently consulting, working on producing a couple podcasts with my wife, and gradually picking up photography again. When I’m not tinkering in the house with something electronic, I’m probably in the driveway tinkering with a vintage Vespa / Lambretta / motorcycle or with the Douglas Dobbins Orphan Car Collection, a 1962 Corvair. You might also find me a on a drag around the block with my 9 month old fur son, Truman.
Doug
