I celebrate the far reaching vision of an entrepenuer who followed his vision across an ocean to a new continent. A man who played a critical role in the early days of national imperialism and economic competition. He opened trade and helped expand the Holy Roman Empire into the Pre-columbian world.
I celebrate the journey of Lewis and Clark, who’s exploration opened up the vast lands of the Louisiana Purchase for the settlers that would follow.
I celebrate the memory of the missionaries killed in the Whitman Massacre.
Ok, I just like saying that to people who get way too worked up judging people of the past with the luxury of the knowledge and values of today. I think we can celebrate the greatest of the what it took to comes across to the Americas while still acknowledging the failures of those same people. Sorry to say vioence, war, and greed did not come with Columbus, they were alive and well with those living in the Americas, AKA the New World, prior the sailing of the Pinta, Santa Maria and NiƱa.
