Jerry Brown, who returned from political exile as Oakland’s mayor, took an early double-digit lead over Los Angeles City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo in the California democratic primary for attorney general. Right now Jerry Brown is cruising with 63.81% (986,442) of the vote to Delgadillo’s 36.19% (559,540) of the vote.
Delgadillo had faced an uphill fight from the start against the former governor and three-time presidential candidate, a household name to Californians for decades. Delgadillo tried to positioned himself as a fresh alternative to Brown and tried to capitalize on California’s important Latino vote.
In November, Brown will face Republican nominee Chuck Poochigian, a Fresno state senator who is also little known to most Californians but who has raised enough money to mount a serious campaign against the Oakland mayor.
