To save my friends in the GOP time.
Thanks for the letting me know, as a couple of you put it, “They got to teach our kids and they can not do simple math”, about Art Dolan’s mail in support of Chris Marr. Now that I have checked my mail box, yes, in the second paragraph of the letter Art incorrectly stated that Laurie Dolan was “600 votes short” in her 2004 campaign. By checking the Spokane County election records for 2004 you can see that Senator Brad Benson (R) got 33,312 (51%) votes vs. Laurie Dolan’s (D) 32,104 (49%) votes. Yes, according to my simple math that is a 1208 vote difference NOT 600.
I also will note, yes indeed, Art send this from a Spokane PO box, even though he no longer lives in Spokane. This also brings up the old issue of Fairfield not being in Washignton State’s 6th Legistive Distircit and the governor’s press release of January 7, 2005 and The Spokesman Review Story, “Gregoire names staff members; Fairfield’s Laurie Dolan will direct” In the governor’s press release the following was stated, “Laurie Dolan of Fairfield as director of the governor’s Executive Policy Office”, so many of you asked me why was Dolan running in the 6th LD saying she lived on the South hill. As I said before, you need to ask her that. But yes, I do know that Fairfield is not in the 6th LD.
To save everyone’s time in the future, there is no need to contact me over what Art and/or Laurie Dolan are/aren’t doing. I ‘ve barely seen them since the headed over to Olympia. I also know that the letter had a poorly scanned signature, but it was not paid for by Doug Dobbins. It was paid for by the Chris Marr for Senate Campaign. For what it’s worth, other than donating some new and used “H” frames for yard signs that probably have a value of a couple hundred dollars, I have not been involved with the Marr for Senate Campaign. And yes, I know that Marr might want to think twice about using the Dolan mailing list since there were a lot of Republican supporters of hers on it tht may not be so willing to support his campaign. I also remind those of you who are not supporting Mr. Marr that he will no doubt raise a bunch of money for this campaign so your efforts will probably be better spent working or donating to Senator Brad Benson to beat him rather than contacting me over campaigns past.

Okay, the “600 votes short” statement does try to make the race seem as close as possible. That’s politics and marketing. But it is also bascially correct because changing 605 votes would have flipped the race.
Dolan 32,104 + 605 = 32,709
Benson 33,312 - 605 = 32,707

Using your math Jay, Gregoire didn’t win by 129 votes afterall. My party knew this from the start. We know all too well that Washington State Democrats know how to use marketing and politics to get a win. Don’t we?
Our Brad won without the need of 2 recounts. So if I should say Gregoire won in 04 by 129 votes as a Republican. Then Democrats should give Senator Benson his due and tell the truth-he beat Dolan by 1208 votes in 04.
Thank you Doug for giving Brad the credit due him.

After the court case, Gov. Gregoire won by 132 votes. And I would say “won by” becuase that’s how many votes more she got than the other guy.
But I will stipulate that a change of 67 votes would have changed the outcome. So Dino Rossi could claim he “lost by” 67 votes. How you communicate it is politics.
But don’t question the math. Dolan is correct in saying she was some 600 votes short.

Jay, first of all Judge Bridges threw out four illegally cast votes for Rossi, which raised Governor Gregoire’s margin of victory to 133 - not 132. And since we are the party of count every vote, even if you going to look at the a race via the swing method, the letter should have said 605 votes short not 600. Especially when you factor in Mrs. Dolan’s present job.
Allison perfers to look at the election via the margin method, which is how the Washington State Democrats address the Governor’s race in 2004. In is the easiest method for people who don’t follow politics to understand.
Allison C, it is considered proper form to address every one by title, especially when you start with a person who holds a lower office like Senator Benson. So in the future when using titles, you should clearly use Governor Gregoire. After all like Sentor Benson, she earned it.

Hey Doug. I just looked at the PDC web site and I can’t find where Chris Marr has reported your gift of H Frames. Based on this web site http://shop.store.yahoo.com/victorystore00/hfrforcoyasi.html They should have been reported. Can you please tell us when you gave them and how many you gave? It looks like Mr. Marr is trying to cheat out Brad again.
Why you stand with these people?

To get to 6xx didn’t Chris Marr mean that he would have to keep the Dolan base and turn arround that many voters instead of druming up 12xx new voters. Either way it is a formitable task. A Bush backlash of substantial proportions might do it.

Frank,
I think the down ticket effect of Bush will be very little help in the 6th LD for Dems. Afterall Marr is running against Senator Benson, not Representative John Ahern or President Bush. It would be smarter to take on Brad with what he will do in short and easy to understand statements.
Plus some of the people who crossed party lines for Dolan, based on the feedback I got after Art’s letter for Marr are not planning to do it for him.
Plus many polls tell you that running against Bush here is not smart! For Example, SUSA still has Bush approval at 54% in Eastern Washington. Here is a link to it. http://www.surveyusa.com/client/PollReport.aspx?g=026e7ab0-ed45-4cbd-bc76-29a5bb501fe3
