The Spokane Indians used a four-run 8th inning to knock off the Vancouver Canadians in game 5 of the Northwest League championship series to win the series and the NW League crown. The final score was 8-3 at Nat Bailey Stadium in Vancouver.
From the radio report there were less than 1,000 fans at Nat Bailey Stadium. The 1PM start might have had something to do with the low attendance. But the Vancouver fans were very kind when the Indians won and gave them a good round of applause.
Today was also end to Dan Wilson’s baseball career. After 12 seasons, 11 of those as the starting catcher, Dan had a press confernece to let the world know of his retirement. He was lost to the M’s most of this year to his knee injury. Many hoped for the possibility that he would be able to play one last game — or perhaps one last inning — with the Mariners. Dan is the last of the 1995 team that saved baseball in Seattle who was still in a Mariner’s uniform.
